Riverhead Raceway:The Flying Dutchman 90

Racing started pretty late for us, with the pit gates opening up at 2pm instead of 12 or 1 like usual. It was a nice sunny day, not too hot, and there was a nice breeze; all in all an almost prefect day to go racing. Our new tire rack held up great, even if we did push our truck pretty close to the limit.

First practice was great! After studying some of the footage from the last time we were out on the track, Ed had a few things he wanted try. Whatever it was he did worked, as we ran our fastest lap ever at a 14.262!

Second practice, wasn't as good, since we spun, but we kept it from hitting anything and got fired up again. Moving right along, our heat races were posted. We started 7th in the first of 4 heat races, and our sister team, the 51, starred 7th in the second heat.

In our heat race, we kept it clean and stayed on the lead lap, but we didn't advance our position so we finished where we started. Only the top six cars qualify so once again we're starting on the pole for the Consi (last chance qualifier), this time with Kevin (#51) on our outside in 2nd.

We led for a couple laps, bit there was a bit of contact between some other cars which allowed the very fast #41 to make his way through the field and pass us. We hung tough in 2nd for the majority of the race until a late caution. After the restart #51 was able to pass us resulting in a 3rd place finish for us and, unfortunately the end of our night.
All in all we had a very good night, with Ed's times being very consistent and faster than we've been, and we heades home in one piece. Honestly, I was more upset by the outcome than he was, but he's just happy he's able to live out his childhood dream of being a racecar driver.
