9/3/2022: Riverhead Raceway - National Stock Demolition Derby and Riverhead Crate Modified 100

The day started off as our usual Saturdays go, with the exception of Ed not having to working in the morning due to the holiday weekend. We got to the track with time to spare and when we allowed into the pits, we were unpacked and set up with about an hour to spare before practice started. With two divisions doing time trials today, it should be a little less crazy for us. Our big change from last week to today was the addition of brand new "sticker" tires to the right side of the car. With no other adjustments made (as far as I'm aware of anyway) practice will definitely be interesting to watch to see what effect the new tires have on the drivability of the car.

The first practice went okay, but our times were a little slower, due to breaking in the new tires. Once again Ed apparently makes it his mission in life to always make the highlight reels, getting a little out of control coming to the "checkers" of the practice round. Luckily he was able to wrangle the car back under control and kept it off the wall and off of any other cars. A minor adjustment or two and we were ready to line up for the 2nd round of practice. We were definitely a little quicker in the 2nd round, but still slower than we had been. Short break for us, then onto the heat races. For the third time in a row we are starting P1 in the first heat. Hopefully we can actually lead a lap this time! 😅

Well, we still haven't actually lead a lap in the heats yet, but we made the feature again! It was a close race between us and the #16, but we held them off coming to the line to claim the final qualifying spot. Additionally, Ed finally hit a 13.9 second lap! 😁😁😁 The first time he's ever run that fast! Now we have some more down time while we wait for the rest of qualifying to wrap up and then it's on to the main events! After an exciting consi race, our buddy #51 will be joining us in the feature after scoring the win in the consi. Starting 21st in the feature, right where I think we should be, our goal is to survive the 20 lap race, and bring the car home in one piece once again.

The feature started off a little rough as we got sandwiched and sideways on the start and then had to sit for awhile since someone dropped oil. We finally have to buy new bumpers, which I'm honestly surprised it took this long for. We made it about halfway through the feature before our car started sounding funny, and Ed pulled to the infield. After the race, we poked around to make sure nothing was broken, and everything was a-ok. Turns out, you need gas to race, and we're the dumbasses who ran ourselves out of fuel.🤦‍♀️ 😅 At least that saved us from getting caught up in any other wrecks.
