6/10/2023: Riverhead Raceway - Advance Auto Parts Night

Hoooo boy, it's gonna be a hot one today! High of 75° and mostly sunny all day. But thats what happens when spring/summer is racing season. We get to start off our day at the track today by doing something everyone enjoys; picking up some money! Since we made the feature last week, we collect our winnings before today's activities get started.

Once we unloaded and got ourselves situated, Ed took a lap around the pits and I got us checked in. Today our pill draw number was 136, so I'm fully expecting Ed to have to do some major work in his heat, since he's probably starting shotgun on the field in whichever heat he's in. We have about an hour before practice starts,  so I use the time to set up all my note sheets, while Ed does whatever until I yell at him to get dressed.

First practice went pretty good, first couple of laps Ed was stuck behind someone, but once he got some clear track he was able to lay down a few good laps. Practice 2 was good as well, put down a faster lap once we got past a caution from a couple of cars spinning. Heat lineups were posted and we're scheduled to started 6th in the 2nd heat. Unfortunately it's once again an incredibly stacked heat, meaning we'll most likely end up in the B-main trying to race our way in that way.

The heat race went exactly how I was expecting and we ended up finishing last. We're scheduled to start 5th in the consi, but with the provisional dropping to the rear, things get a little weird, so I'm just gonna let the race director sort that mess out. We actually ended up starting 3rd, but finished 5th after Ed looped it out of turn 4 while trying to catch the two cars ahead of him. He drove some of his fastest laps too! Our night did end there however, so we headed out to the track to watch the features.
